Three men - John McCann who arrived on the Mangles in 1828 and who had since his arrival been under a colonial sentence to Norfolk Island; William Lynch who arrived on the Norfolk in 1831 under sentence of transportation for life and also been to Norfolk Island; and James O'Donnell alias William McDonald per 'Lady Kennaway' absconded from Hyde Park Barracks and were arrested again after robbing people on the Parramatta road'
